Steven M. Colard died December 4th at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde at the age of 76. He was born on May 27, 1944 to Oliver & Ruth (Marrs) Colard in Denver, CO. After graduating from high school there, Steve took a job with Samsonite where he worked as a tool and die maker. In 1972, he married Carol Ann Sbei and later he adopted her son Bryan.

The couple left Denver in 2002 after Samsonite closed its factory and their residential street was made into a thoroughfare. With thoughts of living in a Victorian home in a small town, they found the VanDeMark House for sale on the internet and moved to Clyde.

Steve worked at Alstom Power in Concordia until his retirement in 2009. After a prolonged illness, his wife Carol died in 2016. In late 2018, he entered Park Villa Nursing Home where he enjoyed his last two years.

Steven (as he became known to his Clyde friends) will be remembered for his dry wit, his delightful mix of kindness and stubbornness, his joy in reciting poetry, and his appreciation for all things beautiful.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents Oliver and Ruth, and his brother Donald. He is survived by his son Bryan of Abilene, KS, a nephew Erik (Nancy) Colard of Buena Vista, CO, a special niece Brenda (Steve) Norvise recently of Arvada, CO, sisters-in-law Carmella Clark of Arvada and Viola Roberts of Omaha, NE, Nancy Sbei (Al’s wife) of Meridian, MS and brothers-in-law Tony Sbei (Susan) of Milbank, SD and Michael Sbei of Las Vegas.

This spring, members of the family will honor Steve and Carol’s wish to be placed together in rest in the mountains of Colorado.

Memorials can be made to Park Vila Nursing Home, Clyde Ks.
