Sister Rose Moos died Sept. 6, 2013, at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. She was 93 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 72 years.
She was born in Brownell, Kan., on Aug. 10, 1920, to August G. and Mary Halbleib Moos, the first of eight children, and was baptized Clara Anna. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia on Sept. 3, 1940. On March 18, 1941, Clara Anna received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Rose Anthony, later changing her name to Sister Rose. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1942, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1945.
Sister Rose received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Marymount College, Salina, in 1957, a Master' Degree from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, in 1967 and took post graduate courses in parochial schools in Pfeifer, Concordia, Salina, Seguin, Herington, Gorham, Tipton, New Almelo and Collyer, Kan., and in Silver City, N.M. She was also librarian at Catholic schools in Leawood and Salina. In 1987 she moved to WaKeeney, Kan., to assist her elderly mother. In 1994 she moved to St. Mary's Convent in Concordia to help with administration and then moved to Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia in 2008. She recently moved to Mount Joseph Senior Village.
Sister Rose was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by her sisters, Cecelia Otter of Nevada, Mo., Marie Billinger of WaKeeney, Kan., and Sister Ann of Canton, Ohio. A Bible Vigil Service was held Sunday, Sept. 8, at 7pm at the Sacred Heart Chapel at Nazareth Motherhouse with Sister Jean Befort as the eulogist.
The Mass of Christian Burial was today, Monday Sept. 9, at 10:30 am in the Motherhouse Chapel with the Rev. James Hoover presiding. Burial was in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
Nutter Mortuary, 116 E. 6th St., Concordia, was in charge of arrangements.
