Rev. Russell J. Gotschall

Rev. Russell J. Gotschall, age 93, of Concordia, KS., died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Cloud County Health Center.
He was born in Franklin, Illinois on December 22, 1919 to Fred and Faye (Izzeta) Gotschall.
He was preceded on death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Eula "Cindie" (Eubanks) in 2012.
Russell is survived by his children: Elisha Woodall; Bruce (Barbara) Gotschall; DeAnn Raab; Bea Gotschall; and Cindie (Tom) Maddock. He was proud to be called "Poppy" by twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
As a young husband and father, Russell was employed on a Salina farm. After answering the call to the Ministry he preached his first sermon on May 5, 1946. With the support of his wife, he attended Kansas Wesleyan University, followed by seminary at Southern Methodist Minister in 1954. In 2010, at age of 90, he preached his final sermon at the pulpit of FUMC in Concordia, ending nearly 64 years of service.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, at Nutter Mortuary Chapel. Family will be present 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Concordia, KS., with Pastor Tessa Zehring officiating. Russell requested cremation, following service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
