Ivon H. Owens Sr. of Concordia, Kansas regretfully breathed his last breath at his home on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, his parents' anniversary, at the age of 69. He had battled the past few years not only with chronic COPD, but also with doctors, family and everyone else who tried to tell him how they thought he should live his last days. He defied everyone and lived how he wanted to live. Ivon was born at his home in Scandia, Kansas on July 18, 1943, the ornery son of Oriel and Opal Everhart Owen. On Feb. 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Patricia LaBonte, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas. Ivon was the happily retired owner of Owen Trucking, Inc.
He was a member of OLPH and a drinking only member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Ivon was surrounded by people he loved and who loved him. His survivors continuing the party of his life is wife, Pat Owen of the home; three sons: Ivon Owen, Jr. and wife Nancy of Concordia; P.J. Owen and wife Stacey of Concordia and Nicholas Owen of Salina. He is also survived by his "cowgirl" daughter, Rachelle White and husband Jerold of Salina other surviving members include his lifetime "partner in crime", brother Lonnie Owen, and wife Sandy of Ashland, NE, and two sisters and one sister-in-law whom he loved to tease each day, Patricia (Tish) Huff and husband Clarence of Brazo-na, Texas; Beverly Wallance of Omaha, NE; and sister-in-law, Janet Guinn and husband Bob of Independence, MO. As much as he loved his siblings and children, his last years were filled with his greatest joy, his grandchildren. He felt truly blessed to have 11. They included his namesake, Ivon Owen IAA, Dalton Owen, Colton White, Clayton White, Caden White, Danielle White, Vivian Owen, Isabella Owen, Juliana Owen, Catilin Duey and Chance Duey. Ivon had one great-granddaughter in Jaden White and a special helper to the family, Carol Owen.
He was saddened to see his parents and two beautiful children, Geary Edward and Crystal Lynn Owen, pass before him along with a brother, Lowell Owen, and sister-in-law, JoAnn Fowler and Mary McGeoch.
Ivon was every child's dream and every parent's nightmare when they visited his house. He loved all kids as he was just a large child himself.
Ivon would love it if you could stop by, share a few of the stories that he can no longer share and laugh with family at one of the services.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 7, at the Catholic Church in Concordia with Father Barry Brinkman as celebrant. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Nutter Mortuary in downtown Concordia. A Vigil and Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Nutter Mortuary as well. If people wish to make memorials, Ivon would love donations to be made to the St. Concordia Catholic Church Cemetery where Ivon spent much of his time and the place he taught many children how to drive a golf cart. Burial will follow the service at St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery in Concordia, Kansas. Nutter Mortuary is handling all arrangements. Online condolences: nuttermortuary@yahoo.com
