Byron D. Menke was born September 20, 1923 in Morrowville, Kansas the son of Albert F. and Mildred E. Menke. He passed away on May 24, 2012 in Cottonwood, KS.
He is survived by his son, Daniel D. of rural Chase County, KS and a brother Charles H. Menke of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Byron grew up in Morrowville, attending Pursley Grade School and Morrowville Rural High School. He married Helen L. Towns March 6, 1943 in Concordia, KS. She passed away in October 0f 2002. He served in the Philippines and Korea during WWII in the 63rd Infantry regiment. After his discharge in 1946, he and Helen moved to Concordia where he went to work for Western Light and Telephone. He retired in 1982 from CENTEL. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church which became Trinity Methodist. In 2003 he moved to Chase County to live with his son. He transferred his membership to the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church. He was in the Chase County Senior Center until his last illness. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 2:00p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church-Concordia, KS, with Pastor Dean Thompson and Rev. Young-Gil Bahng officiating.
Burial Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, May 28 from 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at Nutter Mortuary Chapel.
Memorials may be given to Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church of Chase County Senior Center/
